Been on holiday – make sure you clean your bag out!

For most of us returning from holiday the last thing on your mind as you walk through your door is ‘oooh I must clean my bag out’! However, numerous recent surveys have revealed just how unhygienic our handbags can be, some even up to 40% dirtier than a clean surface. Some of the disturbing bugs found were E-Coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, and Staphylococcus Aurous.

On holiday most of us use some form of public transport, and due to the sheer amount of people using these services it is a real harbouring ground for nasty bugs, which are easily transferred onto your bag.

So on return from holiday it is well worth spending a little time, emptying your bag, and giving it a good clean.

One product we would recommend for a quick and easy clean is Love My Bag Healthy Bag Cleanser, from LTT leather.

You can use antibacterial wipes for the inside of your bag, the zip, and metal fastenings, but do not use these on the leather, as the alcohol will dry it out.  Be sure to clean the leather with a good quality leather cleaner.

The most unhygienic items in your handbag are:-

1. Keys

2. The bag zip

3. Money

4. Phone

Top tips for keeping a healthy handbag

1. Clean out regularly; wipe your keys, wallet and phone with antibacterial wipes

2. Store any food in zip lock bags

3. If you carry shoes in your bag make sure they are wrapped up in a separate bag.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve found in your bag, we’d love to know.
